The Evocative Form

The particular object that I have chosen to reflect upon now in this blog has grown to be an important possession of mine over the first semester of my college career. It symbolizes every memory that I have of those first few months of college; the good ones and the bad. It has gained as much importance as that of my keys or my wallet, and it contains my inner thoughts, inner conspiracies, reflections, and at times, part of my insanity. It absorbs my experiences and contemplations to allow careful analysis of who I am as a person, as a friend, and

as many other such titles. It contains my inner self in every such way, along with important numbers, short bits of information, and lists; many, many lists. The package of such an item is as average looking as an object of every day use; it has a small leather bound cover with many pages attached. The pages themselves however, have transformed into unique works of art; with the remains of many types of ink, from many pens that have been lost, found, and kept close at hand. The occasional drawing has found it's way into those pages, along with train tickets, ticket stubs, and other such memorabilia that has found it's place in my life. The overall meaning that the small black book holds for me is much like a familiar smell that brings you back in time; the significant transformation, realization, and awakening of my first semester.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; SCOPE

Sven is the desk clerk for the Flamingo Hotel, which is also offering reserved rooms for those attending the District Attorney's Conference on narcotics and dangerous drugs. In this particular scene, Sven is unfortunate enough to encounter an unhappy police chief who's reservation was put on the late list. His reaction became a bit of a spectacle, swearing profusely; degrading and insulting Sven to the utmost degree. Sven took this as kindly and smoothly as he could, directing the man and his wife to a hotel just down the street. The scope in this scene is quite narrow, where we see what is physically going on, while we also see the workings of Sven's mind. The imagined acted over the reality; Sven yelling and swearing back at the man in rebuttal.
